The RNZFB encourages family, relations, friends and others to extend their support by becoming involved in the organisation as Associate members.

Associate members are able to nominate a person as a candidate for election to the Foundation's nine-person Board of Directors and then vote for the candidates for that seat. (The other eight Directors are elected by blind, deafblind and vision-impaired Foundation members.)

In addition to voting in Board elections, many Associate members choose to be involved in other ways, for example:

• Taking part in stakeholder consultations
• Participating in the local Community Committee
• Becoming a volunteer to assist blind, deafblind or vision-impaired people in the community
• Supporting fundraising initiatives, especially during appeals.
