Please donate online today to help children like Liam this Christmas.
When the doctors told his parents that their baby boy would never see, Liam’s dad’s first thought was, “I’ll never see my son’s face light up when he sees me.”
Although Liam was initially diagnosed as being completely blind, it was gradually discovered that he can make out hints of colour. When you ask him, “What colour is that?” he brings the object right up to his eye.
He knows there is a colour there, but he sometimes gets red and orange mixed up.
Liam has Septo-optic Dysplasia, a condition that stops his optic nerves from sending visual information to his brain. Although he’s a bright, happy little boy, Liam faces many challenges that often knock his confidence. We have been helping Liam to build his confidence. He tries not to let his blindness bother him, but he’ll always need our support.
That’s why your donation is so important this Christmas: please donate online here.
How your support will make a difference
- Your $150 could help the RNZFB to give Liam the support he needs to grow into confident young man.

- Your $40 could provide a child like Liam with the stories they love from the RNZFB library throughout the holidays.
Liam works hard to overcome his nerves
Together with Liam’s family, our team work day in, day out to give Liam and children like him the confidence they need. RNZFB Life Skills Specialist, Alana, teaches him how to put away clothes, get dressed and help in the kitchen. He also loves listening to the talking books he gets from our library.
With our help, Liam is starting to learn Braille and use his cane to explore the world around him.
Show Liam your true colours.
We need your support to help children like Liam learn skills they will use throughout their lives – from eating with utensils to using the microwave and getting around safely. Please help us make it a brighter Christmas for all of them by donating today.
