Bake a Difference for Blind Week
This year we celebrated Blind Week from Tuesday 25 – Monday 31 October 2011, which included launching our inaugural Bake a Difference for Blind Week event.
All about Bake A Difference
Bake a Difference, which ran throughout Blind Week, was a new, nationwide event in which we asked New Zealanders to get involved by baking delicious goodies to sell to friends, family, workmates or others for a gold coin donation during Blind Week.
With her brilliant smile and culinary skills, Jax Hamilton won the hearts of New Zealanders when she competed in the last series of TVNZ’s Masterchef. Like our members, Jax isn’t one to let a challenge slow her down, so she jumped at the chance to Bake a Difference for Blind Week and encourage New Zealanders to get involved too.
Three simple steps to Bake a Difference
If you plan to hold your Bake a Difference fundraiser after Blind Week, here are some pointers for a successful event.
1. Register your event and start planning
Whether you plan to bake yourself or delegate the baking to others, it’s important to register your Bake a Difference event with us. It will only take a few minutes! Once you’re signed up it’s time to think about logistics… like who can help you, where to hold your event, how to promote your event to others and so on. Check out the handy event resources we’ve put together.
2. Bake up a storm and share the deliciousness
It’s time to take to the kitchen and work your magic! Once your muffins emerge steaming out of the oven, or your scones are topped with jam and cream, simply offer your baked goods to others in exchange for donations… and watch the dollars roll in.
3. Send in the funds you've raised
When you’ve completed your Bake a Difference event, the final step is to send in the funds you’ve raised. See the options at the top of this page, or you can download a banking form from our resources section.
Inspiration for your event
Bake a Difference for Blind Week is a fun and easy fundraising event to hold with colleagues at work, at your local community group, church or club, or simply with friends and family! Everyone can get involved whether they Bake a Difference themselves or show their support by sampling someone else's baking! Some ideas for your Bake a Difference fundraiser include:
- Bake muffins, scones or a cake and place your edible wares in the office kitchen to tempt co-workers in exchange for a donation.
- If your workplace is a large one, you could encourage different departments to have a bake off competition.
- Get your local school involved – school cake stalls can be so successful and it’s a great activity for the children to get invovled with.
- Host a gold coin coffee and cake morning with friends.
- Bake a delicious supper for your next community group or club meeting and ask attendees for a donation (don’t forget to advertise first!).
- Make a big batch of homemade fudge and sell packages to colleagues, friends and family.
