What are rehabilitation services?
Rehabilitation services
Rehabilitation services provide instructional programmes and advice to RNZFB members as they adjust to their vision loss and seek to regain and maintain independence. There is an emphasis on new ways of doing familiar things.
Habilitation services
Habilitation services are aimed at assisting people to live every day as a blind, deafblind or vision-impaired person and to develop the skills required for independence and community participation.
Habilitation and Rehabilitation staff work from 16 RNZFB offices throughout New Zealand. They develop programmes adapted to the individual needs of the blind, deafblind or vision-impaired person.
These staff are managed by four Service Coordinators:
- Auckland and Northland - Penny Hieatt (Auckland)
- Waikato and the Bay of Plenty - Kay Rolls (Tauranga)
- Lower North Island - Devon Easton (Palmerston North)
- South Island - Pete Madden (Christchurch)
Coordinators can be contacted toll-free on: 0800 24 33 33.
