Recreation

There are many physical, social and psychological benefits from participating in recreation activities.

Recreation Advisors provide information and advice to blind, deafblind and vision-impaired people so they can participate in all kinds of recreational activities. The activity can be leisure, play or sport.

Examples of programmes include: Outward Bound, camps, horse treks, career adventure workshops, walking groups, ski programmes, tramps, handcrafts, St John's, or rock climbing.

There is also a holiday home in Tauranga that our members are welcome to use. The home is a two bedroom place that sleeps six with a two minute walk to the beach in Matua, Tauranga. It is available to members for only $50 per night, please contact Karen McIntosh on 0800 24 33 33 to find out more.

RNZFB members also enjoy more leisurely activities such as card games, scrabble, sewing, pottery and music.

Recreation Advisors are based in Auckland, Wellington, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Christchurch and Dunedin.

Staff work with students coordinating national, local or Island-specific peer support activities. For more information contact Elsa Pullenger on (07) 578 2375 or 0800 24 33 33 or email: recreations.
