Getting volunteer assistance
Volunteers are vital to the work of the RNZFB. Each year thousands of volunteers give their time, knowledge and skills to support blind, deafblind and vision-impaired people and the work of the RNZFB. These volunteers are crucial in enabling the RNZFB achieve its vision and mission. And their contributions ensure that we can continue to provide the support that so many people depend on.
Some of the many ways that volunteers can support blind, deafblind and vision-impaired people include:
- Driving them to and from eye-related appointments and RNZFB activities
- Providing short-term shopping assistance
- Assisting them to learn to use talking-book machines and order books from the RNZFB's library
- Being part of a telephone tree
- Supporting other members through peer support activities
- Assisting with recreation and social activities
- Providing direct reading support (e.g. for mail)
