Employment placement
After only nine months in operation, the newly formed RNZFB Vocational Placement Service has successfully placed 35 members into a variety of jobs and industries.
You might already know what job you want, have the skills required and just need advice. Or, you might not know where to begin. In any case, we're here to help!
For more information please contact your local Foundation office and ask to speak to the Vocational Placement Co-ordinator for your area (see contact details on page 16).
New brochure available
Blindness Awareness and Prevention has developed a new educational resource for the general public called "What to do when you meet a blind or vision impaired person".
The brochure contains lots of hints and tips when meeting a blind or vision-impaired person for the first time, such as, "Don't be afraid to use words like 'look', 'see' and 'watch'. People who are blind and vision-impaired use them too."
The brochure is available from your local RNZFB office.
Browse for braille and talking books online
At the end of June you can search online for braille and talking books from the Foundation's library. Go to our website www.rnzfb.org.nz, which is accessible for screen readers, and check out thousands of titles produced in New Zealand or purchased from overseas. These titles can be borrowed by RNZFB members only.
Contact the Library in all the traditional ways, by phone, by post, by email, and talk to our team about your reading preferences.
Focus Groups for 2005
The 2005 Focus Groups started in May in Auckland (June dates and places below). This year the topic of the Focus Groups will be Children's Services. Randomly selected parents, caregivers and whānau will be invited to attend.
Staff from other organisations who link with RNZFB staff in providing services to children will also be invited.
