Association of Blind Citizens of New Zealand Inc

Our Wellington seminar took place on 10-11 May. Issues addressed included education, accessible ATMs and mobile phones. October 8-10 are the dates of our annual conference, which this year is being held in Dunedin. Parents of Vision Impaired New Zealand (PVI)

The national road-show has kept us busy and it was apparent from early on that there is keen interest in the future direction of Homai, and the excitement of possibly having a National Learning Network for our children.

Assisting PVI with this have been the Vision Education Agency; RNZFB Children's Services, Mana Kapo and Pacific Island staff; ABC; Ministry of Education; Group Special Education staff; and of course, our Resource Teachers: Vision.

It is important that the Reference Group and Homai Board of Trustees continue to work towards Homai becoming an integral part of a National Learning Network. Parents nationally see this as a very positive move, one we have been keen to see implemented for many years.

Let us ensure we all work together for the common good of our children!

Retina NZ Inc has two new support groups meeting regularly. The Kapiti VIPs (Visually Impaired Persons) meet monthly in Paraparaumu, and the Manawatu support group meets in Palmerston North. For information about either of these please ring Elizabeth East on 0800 233 833.
