Bathroom bliss

We all spend a decent amount of time in our bathrooms - in most cases it's the first place we visit once we get out of bed. The following are a few suggestions and techniques that will help people with vision loss maintain privacy and independence in the bathroom. These tips should ensure the bathroom is as safe as possible.

Bathroom Checklist:

Tip one - use illuminated and magnifying mirrors.

Tip two - use coloured toothpaste so that is more visible against the white bristles of a toothbrush.

Tip three - use towels that contrast in colour with the bathroom décor.

Tip four - use a rubber-backed mat in the tub.

Tip five - try floating a brightly coloured sponge while running the bath water. The sponge will indicate how high the water has risen.

Tip six - throw out old medication.

Label current medication with a thick black letter on each bottle; and keep a large print list in the medicine cabinet explaining what is what. For example, A - blood pressure pills. Instruction - take one each morning.

Tip seven - Always make sure you pick up the bath mat to avoid tripping up.

Beauty tips

The last issue of Outlook featured some beauty and fashion tips. Coming into the summer months, we have included a few more that will help you look and feel great!

If you have a good skin, use a tinted moisturiser instead of foundation - it's easier to apply and blends really well.

When using lipstick try applying it only to your bottom lip. It will naturally cover the top lip when you press them together.

Consider having your eyelashes dyed/tinted. Then you can use a clear or colourless mascara on your eyelashes instead of a coloured wand.
