Mana Kāpō's Annual Plan

Mana Kāpō Aronga have recently completed their 2004-2005 Annual Plan using a Tikanga framework and by aligning their activities with the main RNZFB Business Plan. They have framed their goals and activities in relation to their Kawa, Tikanga and the outcomes for Māori members, also recognizing their obligation to provide cultural advice and support to staff.

Homai Special Formats Library

The RNZFB's Homai Special Formats Library is based at the Homai National School for the Blind and Vision Impaired in Manurewa, Auckland. It offers a library service to all blind and vision-impaired children throughout New Zealand.

Homai borrowers range from preschool age to young adult and the collection contains collage, braille, audio and large print books. Every second week Homai librarians promote books from the collection on to the Telephone Information Service "Bookworm" option 14.

Challenge for new placement service

The Foundation now provides a Vocational Placement Service. The new service aims to assist Foundation Members meet their employment goals. It is similar to a mainstream recruitment agency but has the additional knowledge in relation to blindness.

Over the coming year the service is committed to placing 60 people into employment.

The service is available for members seeking employment, or who are already in employment but needing assistance to find another job, or who require assistance in retaining employment.

BAP gets bigger!

BAP has employed three new staff to meet the requirements of the new Strategic Plan. Alena Reznichenko is our new health promotion coordinator who will be concentrating on blindness awareness and prevention; Thomas Bryan has joined as team leader employer awareness and Chloe Johnston as an awareness trainer in Christchurch. And August was of course our Save Our Sight month with the annual Funky Eye Friday competition!
