Focus group feedback
Over the months of March, April and May, focus groups were held to seek feedback from members about Foundation services. They were held in Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Napier, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Timaru and Dunedin. Feedback reinforced how unique each individual's sight loss is and the services they need are. Members were generally pleased with the services and support that the Foundation provided. Common themes that arose included the value of library services, concern about equipment services, desire for more peer support opportunities, positive approach from staff, the value of Outlook and the 0800 number, and the importance of rehab services. A summary document is available by phoning 0800 24 33 33.
Save Our Sight
September 2002 has been designated as Save Our Sight month (or SOS for short) by the New Zealand Association of Optometrists (NZAO). The NZAO, with support from Retina NZ and the RNZFB Blindness Awareness and Prevention division, will be out encouraging people to get regular eye checks. They believe many people are not aware how important a professional diagnosis is in detecting the early stages of eye conditions that can lead to more serious sight-impairment.
