The Gabriel Trust
The Gabriel Trust is to hold a Christmas carol concert on 8 December in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell, Auckland. Formed in 1998, the Gabriel Trust was set up to provide concerts where sight-impaired singers and musicians have the opportunity to perform as individuals and in groups with other orchestras and choirs.
This year the Trust has already organised two concerts: the first in March featured the North Shore 100 voice chorale and the second at the beginning of May was held in association with Dalewool Auckland Brass.

Outward Bound
Are you ready for a new challenge? Want to try new activities as well as learn more about yourself?
Then an eight day Outward Bound course for blind and sight-impaired adults could be for you.
For further information and to register your interest please contact your local RNZFB office and ask for the nearest recreation advisor.
Blind mountaineer to climb Mt Cook
The RNZFB will be hosting a very special American guest during December 2002. Erik Weihenmayer, blind mountaineer, author and motivational speaker, is heading down our way on a three-week tour to support the RNZFB in raising awareness about blindness issues. The trip will include a number of fundraising functions in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and culminate in climbing Mt Cook with one of our members.
Becoming a volunteer
Volunteering with the Foundation for the Blind can start people on journeys they never imagined. This message is from a young woman who began her association with the Foundation volunteering in the Hamilton office and then went on to work in a paid position at Homai.
"Volunteering with the RNZFB was the catalyst for where I am now - so thank you!!!! I have just been offered the post of Manager for a new residential service for adults with mixed abilities in London, so I guess you can say I've moved onward and upward from my volunteer days!"

Tauranga advisory committee holiday home
Enjoy a nice break away with family and friends in Tauranga, and use the Foundation's holiday home. At $30 per night, accommodation in the sunny Bay of Plenty does not get better than this.
For more information, or to book, contact the Foundation's Tauranga office on (07) 578 2376.
National bowling competition coming up
We would like to remind our champion bowlers that the national blind lawn bowls tournament is coming up in November in Christchurch. The tournament will run from 25-28 November. More information is available from your local blind lawn bowls club.
Bequest Society for the Blind
The RNZFB is proud to announce a new initiative for older supporters and other interested senior citizens. In Dunedin on 20 August the Bequest Society for the Blind was launched to recognise the generosity of those individuals in the community who have already mentioned the RNZFB in their wills.
The Bequest Society allows the RNZFB to show its appreciation and discuss the special opportunities for using the bequest with those who have made this wonderful gesture known in their lifetime.
Speakers Bureau seminar
Blindness Awareness and Prevention, in conjunction with volunteer services in the Waikato/ Bay of Plenty area, are soon to run a seminar for members and volunteers in the Bay of Plenty.
If you are interested in being part of the Foundation's speakers bureau or would like more information, please contact Alison Marshall on (07) 839 2266.
