Bayleys lead the way

The Foundation is delighted to announce a new partnership with New Zealand's largest full-service real estate company - Bayleys Realty Group. Bayleys has joined us as a major sponsor of guide dogs and will be working closely with us on many activities over the next few years.

Bayleys' fundraising initiatives begin this month and they will be actively involved with the Guide Dog Appeal in April. We're looking forward to working with their team across the country.

Associate membership

Even if you do not need our services for sight loss, you can still join the Foundation by becoming an associate member.

Volunteers, donors, Foundation members' families, all those who support the work of the Foundation in achieving its goals and objectives, may also be involved in its governance as associate members.

Associate members are eligible to vote in the June 2004 election for the associate members' seat on the board of directors. Only associate members can nominate or vote for a candidate in this election. To become an associate member, please write to the Membership Officer, Private Bag 99941, Newmarket, Auckland, or phone 0800 24 33 33.

Make a note of music camp

In July 2004, Homai National School for the Blind and Vision Impaired will host its first national music camp, with the goal of teaching students and training staff.

The camp will provide opportunities to develop braille music skills, sing in a choir, play in a band, perform in the public arena and have fun.

Anyone interested in knowing more about the camp can contact Wendy Richards at Homai on 09 266 7109 ext 829, or email: wendy.richards@homai-nsb.school.nz.

Albinism support

White hair, pale skin and impaired vision are characteristics of albinism. There is a role for a kiwi albinism interest group to inform the public on matters such as skin protection, low vision and successful living. This collaborative initiative will complement the excellent work of Retina NZ. To share ideas or suggestions contact Allen Little: ph 06 368 8484 or email: vision@inspire.net.nz.

Correction

In the Services Update section of the December issue, Outlook readers were invited to join the Adaptive Technology Interest Group (ATIG) email list. The published email address was incorrect and will not work.

The correct address format to use is: join-atig@lists.rnzfb.org.nz

Foundation contacting members

Contract staff are currently contacting members to ask if they would be happy to have their names released to blindness consumer organisations. At this stage the project is due to finish at the end of March.

The project also seeks to update member records and preferred formats for any material the Foundation posts out, and to organise any service referrals that may arise. If we have not contacted you by 1 April, please contact Murray Peat at the Foundation, on 0800 24 33 33.

Vision 2005 conference

The Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) is delighted to host Vision 2005. This 8th international conference and exhibition organised under the auspices of the International Society for Low-vision Research and Rehabilitation will be held in London.
