Research into fire safety knowledge of people with physical and sensory disabilities living independently in the community.
UMR Research Ltd has approached the Foundation to help them contact people with blindness, deafblindness or vision-loss living independently in the community. They are conducting research on behalf of the New Zealand Fire Service. Their research project aims to explore current fire safety knowledge, identify gaps in knowledge and identify barriers that prevent preparations and actions for a fire incident.
They are conducting both face to face and group interviews. The face to face interviews will be held at a time and place of member's choice and last about 45 minutes, while the groups sessions will be with 4-5 other people and last about an hour and a half. People who take part will receive a small cash gift as a thank you for their contribution and to cover any travel costs they may incur if they come to a group discussion.
The researchers are particularly interested in people living in Auckland or in Napier/Hastings. They expect to interview people in Auckland in October and in Napier/Hastings in November.
