2011 Referendum on the Voting System
At the same time as the General Election on Saturday 26 November, there will be a Referendum on the voting system we use to elect Parliament.
The Referendum will ask two questions:
- Whether you want to keep MMP (which is the voting system we use at the moment) or whether you want to change to another voting system.
- Which of four other voting systems you would choose if New Zealand decides to change from MMP.

The Electoral Commission's Referendum website provides further detail about the Referendum and your choices.
