Many specialised support products and aids have to be specifically prescribed for individual members based on personal vision and mobility needs.These items include, but are not limited to, magnifiers and canes.
The RNZFB offers an assessment service to members to ensure the correct item is prescribed to meet safety and effectiveness requirements. It is strongly recommended that you do not purchase magnifiers and first-issue canes without being assessed beforehand. In the event you choose not to be assessed, the RNZFB does not accept any liability for any resulting misuse or safety issues that may arise with non-assessed equipment.
Magnifiers are a prescription item therefore the RNZFB strongly recommends members have a low vision assessment to ensure the model, style and magnification level meets their individual needs and situation. Low vision assessments are available through an optometrist, Low Vision Clinic or the RNZFB.
