Equipment price changes

From the beginning of October, we have needed to pass on some costs to members who purchase equipment. Previously, the cost of postage was covered by the Foundation. However due to a rise in these costs, it has become unsustainable for us to continue doing so.

What costs will members have to cover?

Postage: courier, postage and packaging charges have increased on average by 3% per annum.

Rise in GST: GST is increasing from 12.5% to 15%. This increase will be built into the price of equipment.

Product price adjustments: as in previous years, some equipment prices will be adjusted to align with supplier price changes.

New RNZFB website

Last year we made a commitment to improve communication with our members and supporters. Redesigning our website was one of the first projects.

We knew we had a challenge on our hands to create a website that was not only accessible to the blind and partially sighted community, but also visually appealing to our many sighted supporters and visitors to the website.

It was a big ask, but we're pleased to say that we've achieved our goal.

The website address www.rnzfb.org.nz hasn't changed, but the look and feel is completely different.

We've now got a dedicated section for our members, which serves as an information hub for you all. It includes information on how to become a member, a member services directory, latest news and events, useful resources, and of course the online library and equipment shop.

Do have a browse and let us know what you think. We're pretty sure you'll love it!

PENfriend

Discover the easy way to label items around your home using your own voice.

The PENfriend, which has recently hit the shelves of the Foundation's equipment shop, is a handy device shaped like a pen which works with unique labels for you to identify items such as food, letters, CDs and medicines.

The product is an audio labeller which works by allocating a coded self-adhesive label to a recording of your voice on the PENfriend. To instantly playback the recordings, simply hold your PENfriend over the label – no computer required!

The PENfriend has 75 hours of recording time and you can record and re-record information as often as you like. It's versatile, pocket-sized and easy to use. It even comes with its own audio instructions.

For more information about this product you can find a short demonstration video on www.youtube.com, by simply typing 'RNIB PENfriend' into the search field.
