Ultrasonic cane developed
21 October 2011
The humble bat has inspired a new piece of technology which can help blind people to detect obstacles.
The developers from University of Leeds in the UK have based this new invention on insect eating bats which use ultrasonic waves to find food at night.
The result is a cane which can vibrate when it's near obstacles, so that the user can sense their way around.
