A FREE Touch Tour will also be held prior to the opera. Half price companion seats for the performance are available and of course guide dogs are welcome.
 
Timings for this event are as below: 

  • 4pm Please meet at the Coat-check in the St James Theatre foyer for Touch Tour.
  • 4:15pm Touch Tour on stage.
  • 4:45pm Patrons return to St James Theatre foyer.
  • 5:45pm Introductory notes read.
  • 6pm Performance starts.

Patrons are invited to take their seats in good time, in order to collect their headsets and get settled before introductory notes are read.

Madame Butterfly - ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, Auckland

One of the most popular of all operas, featuring the famous 'Humming Chorus' and 'One Fine Day', Puccini’s Madame Butterfly is an exquisite tale of longing and betrayal set in the Japanese city of Nagasaki around the turn of last century.

This new production stars Australian soprano Antoinette Halloran (Mimi in 2008’s La Bohème) as Butterfly with Italian tenor Piero Pretti as Pinkerton. Accompanied by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Featuring the Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus. Sung in Italian with English surtitles.

A FREE Touch Tour will also be held prior to the opera where patrons can walk through the set, touch set pieces, feel the costumes, handle key props and meet a few of the cast members.

Half price companion seats are available and of course guide dogs are welcome.

  • 12:30pm Meet in the Herald Foyer for Touch Tour
  • 12:45pm Touch Tour
  • 2:15pm Introductory notes read
  • 2:30pm Performance starts

Tickets and headsets to be collected at the theatre reception in the Owens foyer prior to the show.
