Eye Conditions

Not all people's eyes work the same. Because of an eye condition or an accident, some people see in different ways.

Here are some of the most common vision impairments and how they affect vision.

Full sight

A person with full sight sees a scene like this.

Myopia

A person who is severely short sighted might see the same scene this way.

Macular Degeneration

Some people have a large spot in the centre of their vision and can only see around it.

Glaucoma

This is often called tunnel vision which allows a person to see with the centre of their eye but not the outside.

Cataract

This is what the scene looks like when a person has a cataract, which is a cloudiness over the lens in their eyes.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Sometimes people have damaged blood vessels in their eyes and they see like this.

Detached Retina

In some cases the retina at the back of the eye can become detached and doesn't allow a person to see clearly.

Blindness

Many people think blindness is black. It is not. There are varying degrees of blindness and most people we call legally blind have some form of vision. Sometimes this means they can see shapes but not detail.
