Helping you meet requirements

As a member of the health and disability sector you will be well aware of the various legal and policy requirements when it comes to serving people who are blind, partially sighted or deafblind.

This information on our website is designed to help you meet those requirements such as:

  • Providing services in an accessible manner by ensuring that your staff members know how to best work with blind, partially sighted and deafblind people, and that your policies and internal processes support good practice. Our training courses can help to make staff and managers aware of blind, partially sighted and deafblind people's specific needs. For more information see information for businesses.
  • Making sure that any information is provided in an accessible format to those who need it. For blind and partially sighted people, this might mean producing information in braille, large print, audio or accessible electronic text. For more information see information about accessibility.
  • Ensuring your buildings, facilities and grounds are accessible so people can get around safely and independently. See the standard NZS 4121:2001 and our environmental design tips for suggestions about making your environment accessible for blind, deafblind and partially sighted people.
