Become a volunteer
Volunteering is a great way to help us out and connect with the blindness community. We have around 2,000 regular volunteers providing support across a range of areas, but we're always keen to hear from new people interested in helping out.
If you're considering volunteering, have a think about your interests, strengths and how much time you have available. Then get in touch with us to talk through the different ways you can to volunteer and how to apply. That way we can offer you volunteer opportunities that match your interests with the needs of our members.
What happens next?
New volunteers will go through an application process which includes reference and police checks. We will also ask you to sign a 'Volunteer Agreement', which covers confidentiality, volunteer rights and responsibilities.
Once accepted as a volunteer, you will attend an orientation programme. This gives an overview of our organisation, the most common eye conditions as well as training to guide a blind, deafblind or partially sighted person safely.
We will then match you with a role that is right for you.
Volunteers receive:
- ongoing support,
- invitations to recognition functions,
- certificates for training and long service,
- refresher training, and
- the opportunity to further participate in the work of the RNZFB as an associate member.
