Guide dog boarders
Sometimes our guide dogs need boarding in volunteer homes. Usually it's because the current puppy walker or guardian is away on holiday or the dog is awaiting the next step within the guide dog programme. The boarding time varies from one week to three months.
Responsibilities of boarding a guide dog
As a guide dog boarders you will need to:
- Look after the welfare and care of the guide dog.
- Exercise the guide dog each day.
- Ensure all family members or residents of your home are prepared to have the dog inside.
- Be able to take the guide dog out to where you would normally visit, including to work, the supermarket, friends' homes.
- Ensure your property is fully fenced.
