Consultation document
The Board has now finished consulting with stakeholders on our draft
strategic plan. Stakeholders had the chance to have their say on the
work our Board wants the Foundation to focus on over the next six
years: 2009 to 2015. The Board will be considering all feedback
received at their meeting on Friday 26 June.

Background
Our strategic plan explains what the Foundation will focus on over
the next six years. It will set a clear direction for this work, but
one that is intentionally high-level and
visionary.
Once the Board has agreed this long-term direction, Foundation staff
will develop a business plan for the next three years. This will be a
more detailed document which will explain how the Foundation will do
this work. You will receive a draft copy of the business plan for your
feedback.
How the RNZFB Board developed the draft plan
Thanks to everyone who gave us feedback on the 2020 consultation
document. This feedback has put us in a strong position to understand
what we need to do to secure the Foundation’s future, putting our
members at the centre of everything we do. We have built this valuable
information into our draft strategic plan, together with analysis on
our current position, the economic, political and social environments
we face and our future needs.
Features of the draft plan
Based on our previous consultation, the draft strategic plan:
- focuses on the outcomes (results) we need to achieve over the next six years for all blind and partially sighted New Zealanders;
- seeks a balance between short- and longer term priorities, and between resolving our current financial situation and planning for the future;
- consolidates the number of priorities and goals from the 2020 consultation document;
- includes a fifth priority: to become a strong, financially sustainable organisation;
- sets out clear next steps in the form of milestones.
Terminology
The Board has used the term “partially sighted” in this document
after considering consultation from the 2020 project. This brings us
into line with the World Blind Union and the other international
blindness organisations we work with.
Next steps
- The Board will consider the feedback and revised plan at its June meeting with an aim to agree a final version.
- The Foundation will prepare a draft business plan.
- Comment will be invited on the draft business plan.
