Tandem cyclists perform in Denmark

Congratulations to tandem cyclists Phillipa Grey and Jayne Parsons for their stellar efforts at the Paracycling World Championships in Denmark last week.

Jayne Parsons came away with a silver medal for the time trial at the event, and came forth

Here are a few words from Phillipa Grey on her efforts in Denmark:

"For the womens tandem road race, 76.9km, New Zealand was looking strong for a big race especially after both tandems finished in the top 4 in the time trial event two days earlier.

Unfortunately for Gray and Thompson (her sighted pilot) the race ended at the start when the Great Britain tandem and tandem NZ locked wheels and handlebars causing damage to the NZ pairs bike. By the time this was repaired the gap was too big and NZ was down to one tandem.

The women raced predominantly in one bunch for the duration of the race. Positioning became vital for the sprint home and with riders across the track. In what was a close finish New Zealand were fourth behind USA and the two Netherlands bikes while to 2010 World Champions, Canada were 5th.

This trip has been very successfull and we have sent a message out there that we are a tandem to look out for now so thats pretty exciting.. bring on the next few months of training.

We have Oceania track champs in November and then the track world champs in February in LA, really looking forward to see what we can do."
