Aged care staff education programme now underway
The RNZFB has launched a pilot aged care education programme designed to improve the daily lives of the many blind, deafblind and partially sighted people living in residential aged care facilities.
It hopes to achieve this by providing simple tips and advice for staff working in rest homes, retirement villages and private hospitals.
The self taught education programme will be run by aged care managers with their staff using an information pack, an audio CD and workbook which we’ve provided.
To comply with trust funding conditions, the Pilot programme will target a number of aged care facilities in Auckland and Northland.
Alongside educating aged care staff, the programme also hopes to encourage greater awareness of our services, increasing potential membership and sales of equipment, and perhaps leading to potential fundraising.
You can download the RNZFB Information Pack for Aged Care Facility Managers and contact Education Manager Lauren Williams on lwilliams@rnzfb.org.nz or 0800 24 33 33 ext. 6961 for further information.
We will analyse all feedback at the conclusion of the Pilot, likely the end of September, with the aim of rolling out a nationwide programme in 2012.
