Volunteers

Our volunteers provide support across all our services and activities.

We currently have over 2,000 volunteers who regularly give their time and these numbers swell to around 13,500 when volunteers assist with our two national annual appeals.

Our volunteers provide support in four main areas of our work:

  • one to one support for members
  • support for group activities
  • involvement through a community committee or member support group
  • support to the organisation behind the scenes.

Volunteers undertake a myriad of tasks on our behalf. They provide one on one vision support to members for various tasks in their everyday lives such as providing assistance at home, or driving them to an appointment or shopping.

The teams also operate some of our local and national services such as the telephone information service, which provides audio recorded local information and news to members who phone in.

Behind the scenes, volunteers work to support our very popular talking book service, support guide dogs and provide specialist skills to assist the organisation.
