Pacific Services provides advice to our members regarding the full range of services we offer, ensures that our services are culturally appropriate and also helps Pacific people understand blindness and reduce the level of preventable blindness in Pacific communities.
The service provides needs assessments to identify:
- vision related needs
- service coordination including internal and external referrals
- advocacy on blindness related matters
- liaison with Pacific Island communities and other key agencies
- support for families and caregivers of Pacific Island blind and partially sighted children
- peer support group for members
- blindness awareness and prevention programmes in Pacific Island communities
Our staff speak at least one Pacific Island language (Samoan, Tokelauan, Tongan and Fijian) and are based in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Pacific Island Peer Support Group
These peer support groups are open to all Pacific members, and are currently offered in Auckland. The groups provide an opportunity to meet new people, share information, discuss issues relating to blindness, and offer advice such as accessing our services or services of other organisations.
Pacific Island peer support group (Auckland): This group meets once a month at our recreation centre in Parnell, Auckland and Activities include group meetings and social events.
Samoan peer support group (Auckland): This group meets every fortnight at our recreation centre in Parnell, Auckland and Activities include group meetings and social events.
