Counselling
Vision loss, whether sudden or gradual, often creates an unfamiliar and insecure situation and involves a whole spectrum of emotions.
Counselling can assist members through this phase. We offer counselling at no charge. Sessions are held at the member's home or our office. Our counsellors first and foremost listen. They then work with members to explore their feelings and concerns in a safe and respectful environment.
The relationship between our counsellor and the member is one of trust. Confidentiality is a big part of that trust relationship and is respected by our counsellors at all times. Our counsellors follow the Code of Ethics of the New Zealand Association of Social Workers or the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.
Specialised counselling is also offered for children and young people by our children's services team.
